A residency with a focus on
REUSE, SUSTAINABILITY & COMMUNITY

  • Home ReSource is the hub of sustainability in Western Montana, building for what matters: planet, people, and economy. By rethinking current systems, Home ReSource is leading the effort to create a circular economy where we reduce, reuse, repair, rebuild, and recycle. Home ReSource has four main program areas:

    • Building Materials Reuse Store: The flagship program is the building materials reuse store which collects and resells over 900 tons of building materials annually, generating revenue that employs over 20 people. The store also acts as a classroom and laboratory to create a community circular economy.

    • Zero Waste Education: The Zero Waste Education program works with schools across Missoula County to educate young people about reducing waste and creating a circular economy. Each year over 700 5th graders participate in our Zero Waste Ambassador Program (ZWAP), and many other students participate in other zero-waste education opportunities.

    • Zero Waste Infrastructure: Partnering with the City of Missoula, Home ReSource is working to build more zero-waste infrastructure in the community. This includes our Pledge Zero business and organization consulting program, developing a Household Hazardous Waste collection facility, and creating more infrastructure to collect building materials before it goes to the dump.

    • Community, Youth, and Work Programs: Home ReSource prides itself on partnering with community groups to provide opportunities to expand our collective understanding of what a circular economy is. This includes hosting artists, a youth internship program, leading community workshops, and many other activities.
