We believe art is a means to re-envision the world we live in…
Western Montana Creative Initiatives is excited to launch our Pilot year of Open AIR. In 2019, at least ten selected artists will be invited to connect in-situ with residency sites unique to the inland West.
With innovative opportunities available in places such as remote wilderness areas to historically significant sites closer to town, artists will have the opportunity to draw inspiration from a regional community dedicated to preserving place, environment and the arts.
2019 Artist-in-Residence Opportunities
2019 Programming includes
Selected artists will debut our sites for the 2019 Open AIR pilot program. Artists will have the opportunity to connect with a unique site with full access to create and work on their studio practice.
All Artists will have:
Access to a studio space in a unique location
Be part of a closing group show
Have the opportunity to share their practice with the community
Be represented on our online website
Have the opportunity to become a ‘buddy’ with another visiting artist
Access to Community Resources
Artists are expected to:
Contribute one piece of work to the collection
Provide feedback about their experience
Be flexible and communicative to help work out any kinks in the pilot program
While we are hoping to provide artists with a stipend of $25/day for their time, this is based on our success with fundraising and is not guaranteed. Spring artists are responsible for their own room and board (artists selected for the Bio Station will provided with lodging during the Spring). Summer and Fall artists will be provided with lodging.
Resident artists will be key to helping us ensure the success of Open AIR. The feedback generated during the residency will be crucial to ensuring the success of future programs, and Artists will be expected to provide evaluation and feedback at the end of their experience.
Summer and Fall Residency opportunities are open to individual artists and artist teams of two and/or partners. Duos must be willing to share a room. If you are applying as a creative team, please apply individually and indicate who your partner is. Artists do not need to have worked collaboratively together before to be eligible to apply as a team, nor do you need to be working on the same body of work, or in the same medium. Children are eligible to be with parents at either of the Fall Residencies on Flathead Lake.
